Earlier this week, IDC/Asia Pacific held the IDC DX ASEAN Summit. It covered countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines. Accordingly, it is the culminating regional event that honors the achievements of this year’s DX Awards winners. Despite the pandemic, digital organizations across Asia/Pacific showed collective resilience resulting in 1,280+ nominations.
Technology-Powered Regional Resilience
Now in its fourth year, IDC’s DX Awards celebrates the tech-enabled resilience of enterprises as they reimagine their business in the new normal. This year’s best-in-class have been chosen as DX champions. For this purpose, they are recognized for their ability to successfully implement digital initiatives that address the CEO’s new agenda. These include meeting new customer requirements, developing new capabilities, ensuring new critical infrastructure, and participating in new industry ecosystems.
To begin with, the regional event was kickstarted by a welcome address from Eva Au, Managing Director of IDC Asia/Pacific. Subsequently, Sudev Bangah, Managing Director of IDC ASEAN, spoke about Winning Today & Leading in the New Normal. Basically, he cited that organizations in the cost optimization and business resiliency phases should start thinking of an exit plan. Moreover, he advised them to identify targeted investments that are going to help them emerge stronger next year. According to him, “Perseverance during a period such as this [pandemic] is truly creating the leaders and champions of tomorrow”.
The Role of DX in the Next Normal
In our dialogue sessions, Mevira Munindra (Head of Operations of IDC Indonesia), Muhammad Suhada (VP IT of Bluebird) & Vony Tjiu (Small Medium Corporate Director of Microsoft Indonesia) talked about the best practices on using technology to enable a collaborative culture. On the other hand, IDC’s Anchalee Sudechawongsakul sat down with SK Agrawal from Indorama Ventures PCL and Willie Hui from ServiceNow. In particular, they exchanged insights on how organizations can modernize their legacy systems to thrive in a rapidly changing landscape.
Aside from these, the IDC DX ASEAN Summit had various guest speakers. Firstly, Sudev Bangah spoke with Surina Shukri of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) about the Malaysian landscape. Specifically, they tackled technology adoption in these tough times. Meanwhile, Paolo Azzola of PayMaya Philippines, the only end-to-end digital payments ecosystem talked about the radical shift to cashless in the country.
To discuss the current tech trends in Thailand, Mohit Raizada (Research Manager of IDC ASEAN) had a fireside chat with Theresa Mathawaphan (Chief Strategy Officer of National Innovation Agency, Thailand). They outlined the role of technology for businesses especially for SMEs in their road to recovery. Besides, Mevira Munindra from IDC Indonesia had a discussion with Siti Astrid Kusumawardhani from Gojek Indonesia. Generally, they chatted about Gojek’s disruptive ecosystem and its impact on the lives of Indonesians.
Overview of DX ASEAN Awards Winners
To introduce the DX Awards winners from ASEAN, each had a dedicated video. The winning ASEAN organizations shared their DX initiatives and projects. Additionally, they noted the challenges and obstacles that they faced in their respective digital transformation journeys. Further, they introduced the strategies they employed to emerge victorious in their respective industries. Finally, the winners gave a preview of their future plans to advance their positions in the digital economy.
To illustrate, the winners of the top awards were as follows:
- Blue Bird (Digital Transformer) and KoinWorks (Digital Disruptor) for Indonesia;
- Plus Malaysia (Digital Transformer) and EasyParcel (Digital Disruptor) for Malaysia;
- Philam Life (Digital Transformer) for the Philippines and;
- Student Loan Fund, Ministry of Finance (Digital Transformer) for Thailand
In summary, it was a day filled with value-adding talks and exchanges featuring renowned individuals and organizations across the region. Indeed, it was a testament to ASEAN’s potential to become a digital powerhouse.
